I am about to convert my side mount distributor 8N to 12 volt. Since it will now be a negetive ground, where does the starter button get is power from to activate the solenoid?

Starter switch does not supply power - it grounds the solenoid.

Switching it over to 12 volts you don't need to do any thing to the starter switch. No matter how you ground your tractor which in your case should be + ground till you switch to - ground but either way the starter switch will work just like it has for the past 50 or so years. So in other words your worrying about something that you don't even need to touch.
