I"ve had my 9n for about 9 month now with no starting problems (converted to 12 V). About a month ago couldn"t get it to start. Repaced the plugs and it was back to normal.

Now it has become a little harder to start each day (requires more priming). Perhaps it"s flooding, I don"t know. I was quite proud at one point that I had no flooding problem. I would appreciate some suggestion from the guys at this forum.

Also I have a strange ignition switch that has two positions? Looks like someone may have replaced the ignition switch with an old light switch. I don"t know what the ignition switch should look like. I guess i should replace it but because it was converted to 12v is the switch different?

Thanks guys

Ronjoh..... ..you write..... " how often do these 9ns require a tune up kit?"..... ..more often than your computer controled "Belchfire V8" or 4-cyl RiceRocket.

I replaced the points in my eazy starting 6-volt 52-8N this summer after 13yrs 'cuz I was feelin' "guity". The "rubbin" block had worn quite abitt.

BUT..... the 9N's frontmount distributor points gap is very narrow (0.015) and rubbin' block wear is "exjaggerated" and as the points close because of wear, you gitt WEAK SPARKIES and hard starting. All you haffta do is re-set yer points gap to specs. Simple, eh?

You do know it is a 15-min job to remove yer 2-bolt distributor and set yer points on the kitchen table, don't you?..... ...Dell, yer self-appointed sparkie-meister

A switch is a switch and for the most part doesn't care if its 6 volts or 12 volts. When new it should have had a key type switch with an on and off possiton and just 2 wires going to it. From what you say as far as starting it sounds like you just need to do a good old tune up on it. Whcih in my book means points, plugs condenser and maybe even a cap and rotor dedpending on how old the cap and rotor are.

That two position switch must have been popular at one time, my 9N came with one too... Replaced it with a standard ford N key switch with no problems, nothing special about it. Some folks even use a marine grade toggle switch instead.

My old switch appears to have a resistor or coil of some type attached behind it. The reason I haven't changed it to date is I wasn't sure if it had a function.

Thanks and yes I know electronics aren't my strength.
