what is a good plug to run on a '52 8n? there is champion h10 in now. is there a hotter plug, or a better one to use? also , it starts hard, backfires thru the carb. and i have put new plug wires, points, condenser, coil, rebuilt tsx33carb. on the tractor, all which have been gapped, and adjusted to the specs. in i&t manual for 8n. ,thanks.

I would go with the Autolite 437 or AC Delco C45L spark plugs. No offense to anyone, but I do not like Champion plugs in tractors. I have not had any luck with them. If it is a Dodge or a lawnmower, they work great. But if it is a tractor, I like Autolite or AC Delco.

H-12 Champion or

437 Autolite are HOTTER.

However, unless the plugs you now have are fouling, it is unlikely changing to a "hotter" spark plug will help the hard starting and backfiring.

Sounds like there may be some other "issues" involved. Does it still have the as-original 6-Volt (+) ground system?

bob, yes it has orig. 6v. pos. grnd. system, and i checked the valves, they ,are not stuck, the plugs are a dry black soot type of foul. the carb. is a after market rebuild, a marvel/shebler tsx33 i adjusted it after finaly getting the tractor to start, but still starts hard and backfires thru the carb. could it be out of time? havn"t checked that yet. thanks.

Your H10 spark plugs are too cool for modern unleaded gas. Most folks here recommend Autolite 437 or Champion H12.
