this may seem like a foolish question,but I have to ask.The fan on my 9-n blows air from the engine side of the radiator to the front.I believe the manual says the fan should pull.Pull which direction?If it is backward how do I fix the confused thing?Also, axle and link pin gasket replacement went fine,no more leaks!

From the book "Ford N Series Tractors, Originality Guide", the N-Series had 3 different fans and they changed during production. 6-blade push, 6-blade pull, 4-blade pull. The Ford-New Holland parts catalog issued in 1994 still lists both a 6-blade pusher and a 6-blade pull type fans. The pull type is for torred zones.

I have a six blade puller and am wondering if anyone else does. I have never seen another like mine.

Is your pusher fan a six blade like in the link that Mikey posted from Ed Gooding?
If so I have been told that it is darn handy when brush-hogging in thick stuff as it helps to keep the radiator clear...

Eye, I too have a six blade pull type. Don't have any idea how common they are.

When ya have the pull-type fan, always make sure you have a good gasket between the frontmount coil and the distributor and one between the dist. cap and distributor. Make sure your bail works that holds the coil on. I also coat my dist. assy. with some silicone spray. These fans will pull water/snow onto the coil.

(Note for JerryU and dave#1: I use silicone spray to keep things dry. You never know when it's going to rain in a parade.)

Unless I have misunderstood you, the fan should be pulling air through the Radiator Core. That is how the water in the radiator is kept cooler and at the same time your getting cool air circulating around the engine compartment. That's also the reason for the water pump. It helps circulate the water through the radiator core and engine. I don't believe you would ever wanna pull hot air off the engine and through the radiator. My guess and it is only a guess, is that the fan needs to be turned around. I'm assuming this is what the problem is. Also a fan shroud helps to pull air through the radiator core as well. I don't own a 9N but I believe it is set up just like my 8N. Just my 3 cents worth.

I'm sure that someone can tell you more, but I'll tell you what I know.

N series had two types of fans. The original fan was the "blow" type which forced air from the rear of the radiator to the front.

Two main reasons.

1) Kept debris from clogging the front of the radiator.
2) Kept the operator cooler.

The "draw" type fan was available as an option, primarily used in the winter to funnel warm air to the operator. Most often used with a fabric engine enclosure; many posts on this subject, most say it didn't work worth beans.

Thanks for all the good info.Mine is a 4 bladed fan which "pulls"air from the engine side of the radiator to the front.Liv'in down here in the desert I think I'll just leave things alone.Don't need no more hot air on me.
