carb problems 9N

I have recently finished putting my 9N back together. It sat apart and outside for 15 years or more. It took almost a year to get it free and back together, now I have it running but it will idle fine anything more than that it pops through the carb and eventually stalls. I put a kit in the carb and cleaned everything that I could find. I have carb cleaner squirting through every hole in the carb. If I remove the main jet adjuster needle the tractor runs fine. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks,

If you have a Marvel-Scheber carb, there should be a tiny hole in the air horn(the carb inlet near the choke). That's the inlet to the pressure balance tube than vents the fuel bowl to the front of the carb. It's clogged and so since one end of the main jet is in the venturi throat and the other is in the fuel bowl and the bowl vent is clogged, you are causing a vacuum to form over the fuel bowl that restricts the fuel from entering the main jet and the mixture is too lean. When you remove the main jet you have atmospheric pressure in the fuel bowl and some restriction in the air cleaner and the engne may run but be too rich. This is a long way of explaning why you need to get the pressure balance tube clear to vent your carb the way it was designed to vent.

You still have some plac stopped up if it does that. Theres a bowl vent in them and if its clogged it will do just what your saying yours does.

Could you or someone else please post a picture of this elusive bowl vent. I have heard a lot of talk about it here but find no real picture of it"s exact location. I finally drilled a small hole in the top of my carb to act as a vent ant it helped tremondously but it is not the right "fix" either.

Ron,ar

The Vent is in the upper section of the Carb. The
small holes in the wall near/above the throttle also part of the idle system.

Someone posted,on this board, a detailed Manufactures instructions & diagrams ~ 6 mo ago,
around the time you had you problem(I think it was John T )

I will look for the file on my computer and post
if I find it.

Regards,

Wish I could but I also are not sure where it is othe then in the air intake area of the carb. I had a carb that did the same thing years ago and we got a new/rebulit carb and I layed the old corb to the sdie and now it works just fine. I guess after sitting for a few years the rust/dirt dried out and the vent now works.

The 2 easiest things to check are: make sure all 3 fuel filters are clean. Could have gank in the fuel tank. check your wires on the distributer cap to make sure the firing order is right
