Is there a need for an ORC clutch when using a rough-cut mower on a tractor with hydrostatic transmission? My old 8N definitely needs it but not sure about the new tractor...sorry it's a green one....yikes (runs and hides behind haystack).

You've brought up a good question. I've got an 855 (Green and Yellow - hrdrostatic)with a 60" belly mower. I was thinking of getting a LandPride rough cut mower for it. Think I will check it out with the JD dealer and see what he thinks.

As long as it has live PTO no you don't need one. But as the other guy says if you do have one on it the PTO brake will last longer.

Well not to open a can of worms, but some folks seem to think that independant pto tractors do need one with a "heavy turning" type implement like a big bladed mower. They claim it will make the pto brake last a lot longer. Others will tell you it ain't needed.
You pays yo money an you takes yo choice.
