I'm thinking my carb is partly plugged with dirt and that is why my 8n keeps quiting.

Is rebuilding a 8n carb hard?

The carbs are pretty simple but it all depends on how deep you want to go into one. On most of the ones I do I don't remove all the jets because some of them are just plain to hard to get out with out messing them up. A can of carb cleaner like berymans etc is a most, and also a few cans of spray carb cleaner. Some small wire of a torch tip clener is also nice to have and compressed air is also nice to have to blow out all the passages. A good carb kit you have a good picture.instructions on how to take it apart.

That is an excellent article for the rebuild, but what happened in the last paragraph? The directions for adjusting the idle and main mixture screws are way different from what it says in the FO-4 manual, and nothing like what I have seen recommended anywhere else for the MS carb. I know those adjustments will not come close to being right for my 52-8N???

Lash..... ..donnno..... I don't find ennythang particularly unusual about Don's recommendation for the mixture screws being set to 1-1/2 turns.

Don sez..... "Reinstall the power mixture needle/screw and its new gaskets, and reinstall the idle mixture needle/screw and its new gasket. Screw the two mixture screws closed then back off 1-1/2 turns. Back out the idle speed screw on the throttle shaft until the butterfly fully seats closed"

Both my Ford N-Owners manual and I&T FO-4 recommend 1-turn out as starting place for mixture screws. These are just starting places.

My final carb adjustment usually has the down-pointing mainjet about 1-1/2 turn and the side-pointing idlemix is usually about 3/8-turn. Much to the dismay of environmental bureaucrats, every carb/engine will be different; thats why theres tweek'ems..... ....Dell

After you rebuild your carb, post back because from the information you furnished in your two posts its not your carb.
