I have a 9n and when I lift anything real heavy using a boom pole it won't lower it. It will eventually leak off (about 10 min.) and then works fine until I lift something heavy again.
By heavy I mean where the front end gets light but does'nt come off the ground. The first time it happened I took the side cover off and made sure the valve was moving in the pump and it was, I could move it both ways and it still would not release! Can anyone tell me what is going on here?

8N'r I changed the fluid and cleaned the sump this spring. I used the NAPA GL-1 fluid as recomended. The exact same thing happened to me when mowing with my 5' brush hog as you desribed.
I think it has something to do with the top link but it is adjusted like the shop manual says. I'm lost on this one. By the way, this is my first post to this forum and I have enjoyed reading it for over 3 years!I have always been able to find the answer to any problem I had by searching in the archives but can't seem to find the cause of this one. Thanks.

I'd check the oil... It may have some trash in it that is blocking the exhaust valve... the jerking shock load pops the trash free...

Rod--I had the same problem this Spring when I started to mow. After mowing for a while and the hydraulic fluid was good and warmed up, my mower would end up dangling off the end of the tractor when raised to its upper limits. I would have to "jerk" the tractor and then the mower would come crashing down to where I had the limiter chains set. I drained out the hydraulic fluid (the "thin stuff" as it was described to me by the P.O.) and replaced it with NAPA GL1---I have not had any problems with it since. If your hydraulic fluid has not been changed in a while, you may want to clean out your sump of any gunk that may be residing in the bottom----good luck---Tim (WI)
