My 8n is still quitting after my carb rebuild, I'm still thinking it's starving for gas and think now I need to replace my carb with a new one.

Where is the best place to buy a new carb ?
Thanks Rogar

Roger,
Many sources where you can buy a carb. Be sure and post back after you put the new one on, because as several have told you on your previous posts the problem is not your carb.

The carb on an 8N is pretty simple but can be a pain to clean. Theres a good number of passages that are hard to get open. Now please fill in the gaps as to what you have done. Will chokeing it help it keep running?? Have you made sure you have a nice brite blue spark when it dies?? You may have a spark problem as the others have said. Also is it a front or side mount distubutor??

Roger..... .thank you for posting again. 2-posts ago we told you your problem was NOT your carb, but you persisted. 1-post ago, we told you your problem was NOT your carb, but you persisted and we directed you to a great carb rebuild section. Now you post again that even after rebuilding your carb, you still think your problem is your carb because you think it is starveing for gas. How do you reach this decision?

Have you performed some of the "other checks" that we have suggested? What is the "compression" of your engine? Low compression will NOT SUCK gas from your carb. Ford's compression specs is 90psi min. What is your compression. Iff'n you can't or refuse to do a compression test, all the new carbs and carb rebuilding in the world will still NOT wet yer sparkies. Understand?

You were advised that 80% of all carb problems were solved in the ignition system. Will your sparkies jump a 3/16" gap? Iff'n NOT, yer problem is yer sparkies, NOT yer carb. Now go out there and do those tests BEFORE you squander yer money on a new carb that you don't need..... ..respectfully, Dell

If you are starving for gas I would check the following:

All three inline gas filters: Tank, bowl, carb elbow.

Also check the gas tank vent. If clogged it will create a vacuum in the tank after a few minutes of running.

Remember, on these tractors most carb problems are electrical.

"on these tractors most carb problems are electrical."

What they mean is that what seems like a carb problem is actually an electrical problem most of the time.

You need to check for fuel flow. Open the drain plug on the bottom of your carb to check for full fuel flow. Check for stuck float valve. (Tap the carb with a screwdriver to loosen float)

When it quits will it run on starter fluid?

Are you getting good sparkies when you try to start it after it quits?

Rogar, you say----"My 8n is still quitting"----give us a bit more info on what your N is doing, how long does it run before it quits, how long you need to wait before you can get it started again, have you replaced points, plugs, coil, fuel filters, etc---the guys can then be better positioned to pinpoint the troubled area.--Good luck, Tim (WI)
