I know what you mean...I have started some seeds and will plant them in the garen next week...I also put in some more fruit trees (cherry, plum, peach) sugar maples and pines...great seeing them alive and green...very uplifting to me.

Fruit trees, AARRGGH. I was so happy when I put in two apple trees this Spring. I bought them on line, bare stock. Put them in and watered like crazy. I have had lots of leaves coming on and then when I went to check on them Sunday morning, no leaves. They have been attacked by those vicious, no good, DEER. I have now fenced in my trees and I hope this stops the buffet. Otherwise I guess I will sit in my barn all night, everynight, with a shot gun!

I have been expanding the orchard for the last 6 years and I have not had any critter problems at all yet...thank God. I keep a salt lick out back and I think that helps a bit with keeping the deer happy...I give them some thing and they leave me alone...also, I mulch around the trees with sawdust that has goose and duck scat in it...I think that helps also.

Hi Chuck, I've got quite a few apple, pear, apricot, and cherry trees. Over the years, I have seen the deer around here get more numerous and more brazen. I thought I was going to have a lot of problems. Strangely enough, the only thing they bother is 4 scraggly little peach trees way at the back of the property I was going to cut down. Needless to say, I've left them for the deer.
