I have a 52 8n that will not turn over using the push switch. I can engage the starter by pushing a small screw driver threw a small hole in the bottom of the selaniod. I have tried a new selanoid, starter switch, and wire.... but no go. I have also noticed the cable lug on the starter is worn. Is it possible to replace the lug without replacing the starter housing????? Could this lug be my delema??? Any help would be greatly appriecated. Thanks!!!! Baffled in Berkshire

Almost certainly, you have replaced the correct oddball starter solenoid that is engaged when the little terminal is grounded with a standard "Ford fender-mount type" starter solenoid that needs battery voltage applied to the little terminal to engage it.

Get the correct one from a tractor parts place, or an auto parts place.

If you go to an auto parts place, the "STANDARD IGNITION" (brand name) part # for the correct solenoid is SS-559.

1st, yes.. generally a worn starter lug can have a repair stud screwed over it, if it is not too far gone.

2nd... If you have a new thumb switch, and solenoid, and it still won't work.. ensure that you have the correct 3 prong solenoid, and that the 3rd smaller prong faces the tractor... Grounding this prong is what energizes the solenoid... that's all the tranny interlocked thumb switch does... it grounds the 3rd small prong.. etc..
