How much Marvel Mystery oil do I put down a sparkplug hole to unstick a stuck piston ring and how long do I leave it in for.

A little kerosene mixed in that ATF fluid works pretty good too.. -almost- as good as mmo I think.

I have used MMO before and now days I will not use it. For half the money tranny fluid works as good or better at least in my book. I also work on a lot of old tractors and 50% of them are locked up when I get them and so far out of 10 only one gave me any problems and I used tranny fluid on all 10. By the way that # is probably a little low I have lost count of how many I have done in the past couple years but with 30 plus tracors I loose count easy LOL

It's going to depend upon why the ring is stuck. If the engine overheated to the point the aluminum from the piston pulled over the collapsed ring, no amount of anything is going to help. If it's just crud from dirty oil, your best bet is going to be changing oil regularly and adding a quart of Marvel Oil instead of one quart of new oil. If it's fuel related, add about a tablespoon to EACH tank of gas. That will also keep the valves from sticking. Good Luck!

Robin..... .MMO is one of the few canned snakeoils that work. IMHO. Would you believe that there are instructions printed on the can?

Basically, remove ALL yer sparkies and pour about 1-tablespoon (1-oz) down every sparkie hole and letter sit for a couple of days. The THIN oil (MMO is actually a solvent) will actually slip thru and past your stuck rings down into your 6-qts of engine oil. You'll NEVER KNOW its there. Do this "treatment" for 3-times.

Then BEFORE you go to restart your engine (use NEW AutoLite 437 sparkplugs); CRANK yer engine to "blow" enny MMO (that hasn't drained) out yer sparkie holes so you don't gittta "HYDRAULIC LOCK". Now install yer sparkies and start using your normal starting procedure. Simple, eh?

Once you re-start yer engine, after heating the engine oil to operating temperature, (which takes about 1-hr) the solvent based MMO will actually "evaporate" out yer engine oil breather. Isn't that amazing? Still you NEED to change your dirty engine oil and filter after treatment. ..... ..Dell

Dexron II or III transmission fluid will also do the job for a lot less money. GA Jim

Jack from Illinois posted this in April. I hope it helps!

"The Marvel Mystery oil treatment is worth a try. A couple of teaspoons full down each sparkplug hole - leave it for a day or so and if the rings are stuck you will see improvement. A couple of treatments made a big difference in mine. I changed the oil and added about a pint to the oil and it slowly got better. It"s a lot cheaper than an overhaul and just may work. Mine isn"t perfect, but there is now very little smoke, no more fouled plugs and the oil burning has stopped."
