Howdy fellers, My 46 2n spits and sputters when I idle it up high. It starts good, runs ok as long as I dont give er the gas. I just had this carb boiled out a few weeks ago. I dont have a carb elbow screen in it. I have a sediment bowl with no screen but I have a glass fuel filter with a screen in it that I have just took apart and cleaned and on the other side of it I have a inline fuel filter (disposable type plastic with paper filter). I didnt have the original fuel line when I restored this gal a few weeks ago so I used rubber automotive fuel line. It has flow at the carb. I've tried adjusting the carb best I can, I'm no expert. It was running ok, but last time I took it down the bottom of a hill I like to not have got it out fer lack of power and it spittin and sputterin. Any thoughts or ideas on this.

Got an 8N three months ago. It has a rubber fuel line w/ paper filter. All three screens missing.
A lot of rust in tank. Ran well, started losing power and died. Finally took line loose at carb and blew into it until heard air going in tank.
Started immediately and ran fine for about 2 hours and did it again. I expect to change filters and blow in the tank for some time. Hopefully this will happen less an less. Only use it for a couple of hours a week so I don"t think it"s too much a bother.

Wisher..... ..one of the founding N-Board members 10yr ago INSISTED 80% of all carb problems (including spitts and sputters) were found in the IGNITION SYSTEM. Yer description has all the earmarks of WEAK SPARKIES.

Yer 46-2N also is succeptable to incorrect points SHORT mounting screw swaps with the longer condenser mounting screw. The longer screw will catch on the centrifugal advance weights and cause LOW POWER and spitts and sputters at high rpms. But will be an eazy starter.

And I have NO PROBLEM with using fuel grade rubber carb hose..... ..Dell, yer self-appointed sparkie-meister

I have one almost like it. I would venture a guess that the carb needs cleaning really good and maybe, (dare I say it) the BOWL VENT is restricted:^)

No, Jerry I haven't had time to play with the N this week. Deer season starts Saturday and I have been trying to get everything packed up and loaded for the great adventure:^)

Good Hunting! If you are as persistent in hunting as you are in finding the problem with your tractor, it should be a successful hunt!

Could be water in the gas from condensation.
