Hi All--

Thanks for all your posts and replies. You guys are great. I need some help. I was looking to buy a 8N project for the winter and went to lookat a "8N" but found that it was a 9N but had the same axillary shifter as pictured in>Link
I>Link looked at another 9N and it also had the same shifter. What is the consensus of what this is? hi/lo? Overdrive? HUPP?

Thanks guys -- It looks like the one in the top picture ( 8n ) -- I dug around in the archives and someone said it was sold by Sears or Monkey Wards but I didnt see a final consensus.

The one on the right is the one that Ive seen on two 9Ns. I verified with the owner(s) that it is an overdrive only unit -- no Hi/Lo. Thanks so much to all for all your help! If I'm the sucessful bidder tomorrow I'll take pic's and post them.

If it looks like the one in the top photo it is a Hupp overdrive. The F&T has more of a ball on the end of the shifter lever.

ww...it might be an F&T overdrive or a Hupp o/u. The Hupp shifter is more horizontal, the F&T more vertical. Here's a pic of the literature from the Smith's site for the F&T.
