I have a question for you fellers. My son-in-law has a 1964 Ford 2000 and he needs to replace the front pivot pin. I dont know if it is like the one in my 8N or not. I am sure some of you fellers know. Does it require a special tool? And is there a recommended way of extracting it to replace it. I told my son-in-law that this is the place to get answers for his tractor problems. If any one has any good suggestions, they will be greatly appreciated. TIA.

RT:

Unlike the axle pin on your 8N, the axle pin on the 64 2000 is threaded into the axle support.

If you are lucky, you will be able to remove it without difficulty by turning it with a bar between the tabs on the front of the axle pin. If it is badly rusted and the tabs break off you may need to weld a large nut onto the front of the axle in order to turn the pin with a wrench. An impact wrench is recommended.

Once removed, inspect the front axle support where the pin goes into it. Often the support is elongated due to metal fatigue and use of a loader. If so you will can repair or replace the support or simply weld the new pin into the support.

Of course, if you weld the pin into the support subsequent removal/repair of the axle, bushing or support is made more difficult.

The pin for your 8n is part number 2n-3126D ( 2n after sn 167488, 8n )

c5nn3127b is the pin for a 1-1-65 2000 manual and power steering.

Your 64 2000 is going to be similar to a 600/601.. so it may use a NCA3126 pin.

So .. no.. it's not the same pin as your 8n.. though it is a similar design. That waht you were asking?

Thanks Dean and SouNd Guy. Good info on both counts. I will pass the info along to my Son-in-law. Your input is greatly appreciated. Keep up the good work.
