Thanks to everyone’s help my 8n transmission/hydraulics are working just fine. 90wt GL-1 from napa and away we go.

Question is about my other “toy” An Oliver OC-46 crawler. Transmission fluid for over 32 degrees from the manual is:

“SAE 50. Extreme pressure, multi-purpose or detergent lubricants must not be used”

So I go to Napa and they tell me that 90wt GL-1 is the same stuff? Something about viscosity of gear oils vs engine oils. Not too sure why engine oils are at all involved since these are both for transmissions.

I’m lost (Kirchhoff does not help here) so advice would be appreciated

Your manual is telling you not to run a multi weight oil, and not to run an oil with EP addatives. Most oils with ep addatives attack yellow metals ( many don't.. nowadays )

A sae50wt ND oil is gonna be darn close to a 90wt gl-1 oil

I tell ye.

My dayum 49 8N.

I try hard to run that GL-1

This board is full of good Yanks, that seem to be runnin it!!! I can"t figger that out!!

When it starts getting down to 65° my lift is less than desirable, to be conservative.

Don"t think I haven"t run GL-5 in er.

Tractor works with it.

I switch back and forth.

I have had er down, she seems *no* worse for the wear.
