On a 1948 8N Ford what is the compression suppose to be, and what is acceptable?

Rockhead..... ...Ford specs for the flathead N-Engine is 90psi MIN (dry).

Engine in good shape about 110psi. Just rebuilt engine about 125psi. Just for grins, my 1969 BMW 2002 with 385k-miles checks about 165psi. Just for grins, my Dodge Cummins Diesel about 220psi.

90 lbs is about the minimum you want to see, w/ the lowest reading w/in 75% of the highest. 120 after a rebuild is about as good as it gets. Anything below 90 & they get hard to start. Check out tip # 46 to make a compression check easier.
