Well I tore the muffer right off the tractor in some rough trails. Any ideas on replacing it with a vertical or the Horizontal system. Also the exhaust manifold leaks even after i replaced the gaskets, I see two manifolds one for $98.90 and the other one called a high quality one for $48.31+8 shiping. Any sugustions on which one. This is a working tractor

Thanks ron

I have an eroded spot on the engine block under the exhaust manifold of my 6 cyl Funk engine. A new gasket didn't cure the leakage problem. So, I cleaned the spot read good and trowled in some JB Weld. Been over 2 years and the JB Weld is still holding.

Have had two tractors with vertical exhaust, a 2000 and a 641. Like the horizontal exhaust on my 8n better. Less fumes in your face and don"t have to worry about tree limbs breaking the exhasut or the manifold.

I have the vertical exhaust. I"ve never noticed a problem with fumes. As for hitting tree branches, I think it is an advantage. I have a bunch of old cherry trees I mow around and I figure if the branch clears the stack, it won"t knock me off the tractor and under the bush hog!

I got the less expensive manifold for 45.00+ shipping off the Internet. It"s OK for a working tractor but be prepared to do some grinding on it to get the nuts on to mount it. I would get a better quality one if I had to do it again.

The muffler was 20 bucks on the Internet and was fine. They sell the muffler at Tractor Supply for 28.00 I think.

Good luck!

I replaced the exhaust on my 8n with the vertical (stack) exhaust, but it has its disadvantages. 2 things come to mind. #1 is that when you are out in the woods you have to be careful that the stack dosn't catch a branch. It can become dislodged from its mounting. #2 If you are driving along at a very slow rate of speed (common for an N)you will start getting a headache and possible dizzyness. This will be due to the exhaust fumes wafting into your airstream.I am going back to the stock type (belly mount) Just my .02 cents. Happy N ing!!!!

It sounds like my best bet is to get the $98 manifold and the underbelly muffler. My father told me to pinch every penny, but my mother said don't be penny smart and pound foolish.

Sounds like now is a good time to get the split manifold with dual exhaust. It sounds good and a couple more horses, too.

Can't tell you. This site won't let me. You will have to e-mail me to find out, but the cost of one is $385.00 plus shipping. That may change ye mind. Drop me an e-mail if still interested with the words "dual exhaust?" as the subject so I will open it.

The little exhaust on the little tractor ain't nearly stressed or pressurized and there ain't no more horsepower from an engine until it makes more rpm and the governor prevents that... so don't fall for a complicated expensive exhaust when the original set up is all it needs and lasts a long time.
