53 Jubilee Hood

Just bought a 53 Jubilee and can't seem to get the hood adjusted right. The hood emblem assembly was bent up when I bought the tractor (thankfully the original emblem wasn't destroyed). Anyway I took the emblem assembly off and straightened it and put the sheet metal back on. The hood itself is about 1/2 inch too long. If I adjust it to fit the front, the back laps up over the dash where the tach is, and if I adjust it to where it will fit in the back, then it overlaps the hood assembly in the front. My question: Is it possible that someone replaced the hood with an aftermarket hood and it is simply too long? I'm thinking about taking it to a metal shop and having it cut down to fit. Do you think this is the best way to handle the problem or does anyone have another suggestion? The metal is good and straight and not damaged in any other way. Everything seems to fit right except for the cover (it doesn't want to fit down in the "Groove" all the way round. Thanks.

Dell is right on, again.
I have 2 Jubilees and both had trouble with hood alignment. Ever notice a lot of holes are bigger than the bolts provided or the holes are elongated? Still done with new vehicles today that have bolt on (plastic or metal)panels.
I'm not looking forward to the rear step bumper that I have to replace on my truck this week-end.

You're right about the elongated holes. I've even made a few of them more so. I'll do some pulling/tugging/prying and hopefully I'll get it. Good luck with your bumper.

 Re: 53 Jubilee Hood . . . NO CUT!!! in reply to Randy442N, 11-14-2006 02:43:39
Randy..... .NO CUT!!! loosen ALL yer fastening screws/bolts (what ever you want to call'em) and wiggle and jiggle and FORCE the panels into position.

While I'm NOT EXPERT on NAA Jubilee's sheetmetal, such apparent sizing mismatch is common in ALL forms of assembly. (including wooden houses)

The 8N 1-piece sheetmetal hood can have fittment problems due to the thru-the-hood radiator neck because the radiator neck vertical location is governed by the radiator top-hose length. So you loosen the hose-clamps and push-pull the radiator in the right direction so it will fit thru the hood-hole. And then re-clamp the radiator hose.

Same sorta logic for yer NAA Jubbie sheetmetal. NO CUTT!!!..... ...Dell, the non-expert
