I have gone through everything except the ignition resistor (Not sure of it's function) and now have spark. It is yellow but better than nothing. The plugs get damp so have gas getting to the cylinder. I would think that when it turns over at least it would grunt, sputter or backfire but nothing happens - just grinding of the starter.

I don't know where to go next but the scrap heap!

Your older model cars used the ballast resistors also. The purpose of them is to not burn up your points.
One thing the cars had that the Ns don't is a circuit to bypass the resistor while cranking, giving you a hotter spark.
On my N, especially in cold weather when she has been sitting for a while, I will press the starter and get it turning, then take my pocket knife or whatever is handy, and short the terminals of the resistor together, bypassing the resistor.
You want the engine turning before you do this.
Don't short to anything else.
It usually fires up as soon as I do that.

Yellow spark isn't good enough. You need a brite blue spark for one to run. Your points could be bad or set wrong, coil could be weak of the resister maybe bad or the wrong one. 6 volt or 12 volts?? Have you replaced the ignition switch??

I have replaced the coil - 6 Volts. New points, condensor, cap, rotor, plugs. When turning over goes back and forth between6.4V and 3.2V. Jumpered the ignition switch and made no difference so assume it is OK.

rollie..... ..agree with OLD, gotta have blue-snott sparkies, NOT WIMPY yellowish/orangish poor sparkies.

You write..... ."When turning over goes back and forth between 6.4V and 3.2V"..... .this is NORMAL. 6.4v means GOOD CHARGE on battery and points OPEN. 3.2v means points closed.

Howsomevers; 3.2v might mean some resistance on yer new points contacts which means WEAK SPARKIES. You might want to clean/polish between yer ignition points with strip of brown paper bag or dollar bill..... ..Dell, yer self-appointed sparkie-meister
