Ray..... ..nice score..... .I have several color pictures of different colored "hundred" series tractors and the "pie-weights" seem to match the color of the fenders. (gray) I say they're yer pie-weights, paint'em enny color that pleases you..... ...Dell, the 20/20 painter (looks good at 20ft or 20mph)

Thanks Dell! I look forward to the little extra traction. And I have a big 'ole gallon of the proper Ford gray - so that's what they'll get.

Closer to 800 lbs.including the centers. [Pies are 30# apiece,] Wts. are painted the same color as the rims.

JRB,

The seller claimed 1200 pounds. I read your post, where you are saying 800# or so. The engineer in me doesn't like mysteries, so I weighed 'em.

22 of the 24 pies weigh 43 pounds each. 946#
2 of the pies are cut back for tire stems - they only weigh 32#. 64#
The center mount plates weigh 48#. 96#

946 + 64 + 96 = 1106 pounds All totaled up, that's near enough 1110 pounds with the hardware thrown in.

Thanks for the information on color. I'm going to have these sand-blasted and primed, and seeing where they get painted, they might as well be close to the factory color.

Best regards,

Ray

The picture gave me an idea. I have a small trailer which I could make the tounge fold up then make a 3 pt hook up on the side to use as a carrier. Although it wouldn't go all the way to the ground, there are places I could use it that just wouldn't be handy trying to back around. HYmmm, the things you think of at 5:00 in the morning. {Actually I guess I could put pins in the axel springs also and slide it out since its only a small trailer.]

Yes, Ray, you have the "heavy" set.

Ford made both heavy and light sets. As you have demonstrated, the heavy set is nearly 1,200 lbs. when you include the weight of the 16 adapters and 24 bolts. The light set, recommended for anything smaller than the 8xx series tractors and required for use with power adjust rims, uses segments weighing approximately 30 lbs. as well as a lighter star wheel, and totals approximately 850 lbs.

Most folks paint pie weights the same grey as the wheel discs but I have seen them painted red.

I have painted both of my heavy sets grey but my light set that is used on my 64, 4 cylinder 4000 is painted blue because I like the contrast with the lighter shade of paint on the power adjust wheel discs.

Tip: When you install your weights be sure that the star wheel is installed with a weight "groove" in line with the valve stem (assuming valve stem is on the outside). If you do not, the valve stem weight will not clear the valve stem, and if you install the valve stem weight last, you will need to remove all of the other 11 weights to realign the star wheel. How do I know this?!

I have 2 sets. I just came back in from the shop and although I only weighrd 5 , they all weighed 30#. I have seen the sets with 43# pies but most had less pies per set. My centers weigh about 96# total.

JRB:

I do not know what you are using your two sets of weights on but if you need more weight, I have a spare set of the heavy segments that I would trade for light segments.

I, too am in IN. Let me know by email if interested.

Ford also sold a 1000 lb set which was considered the heavy set for power adjusted rear wheels. They were considerabley wider than the other two sets.. They were very popular at your dealership back in the early 60s.Think about- IOWA ,corn , cornpickers. rowcrop tractors ,with power adjusted rear wheels standard!!!!
