lift problem

I have a 1952 Ford 8N that the lift will only go to 25" from the ground. You can manually lift it to 30" but then it"s like hitting a wall. The quad adjustment is all the way to the rear. Does the lift need rebuilding? Or maybe the cam follower pin is worn and needs replacing? I have posted a photo earlier of this tractor. It has two scripts on the hood"s left side. Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

banj...you might try loosening the four cap screws at the base of the quadrant control & bumping the assembly a bit fore or aft. It's designed for some adjustment & will change the lift range of motion. Keep in mind it will also effect the draft response, so play w/ both to get a happy balance.

I make a jig for adjusting the 8N lift. It comes with a new cam follower pin and a booklet of instructions and pictures showing how to do it.

click on my logo below for more information on it and the other stuff I make for the N tractors and Ferguson system.

You sure have my curiosity on this "You can manually lift it to 30".

You must be a big ole boy.

well I am a 'big ole boy', but what I meant was that after the tractor has been sitting not running for a while, and the lift has leaked down, I can grab the drawbar and lift it to 30" from the ground, but then it stops dead, like hitting a wall. It will go no further. But with the tractor running 25" is as high as the lift will go, which won't even get the plow tip off the ground. Something is wrong.

banji..... ...according to the 8N's Owners Manual, the rear 3-point arms 11-hole drawbar lift specs are min 8-1/2" and max 34-1/4". Since the hydraulics are POWER-UP and GRAVITY-DOWN, it is NO feat of strength to manually LIFT the non-running tractor 3-point lift arms..... ..Dell, the weak

I am betting on that pin that follows the cam.

Rear end cam.

Mine was half at best when I changed it. 48 8N
