9n Carb setting?

My 9N starts and idles alarmingly fast. This tractor had set for 3 years. I put in a new battery, replaced coolant, changed oil and sparkplugs and it started right up. When I put it in gear and release the clutch the motor slows down under load and runs well for about five minutes. Then it begins to bog down and requires increasingly more choke until it dies after about 15-20 minutes total running time (disengaging the mower deck extends the run time about 5 minutes). It will restart but dies again almost immediately. Does this sound like a carburetor problem to you?

It doesn't cost ye anything to check ye fuel flow first. It could be ye switch or ye coil but I would check the fuel first. It is FREE.

Sounds like it could be a fuel delivery (restriction) problem. Try all the stated procedures and when ye start it and it immediately dies, pull the plug on the bottom of the carburetor and see if ye have a good strong stream of gasoline coming out(catch this fuel in something so ye can return it to the tank. If it flows good for about a pint or so the fuel is not the problem. It it does not flow good, reach up and remove the cap on the fuel tank, if that helps a lot ye vent hole on top of the tank is probably plugged. Post back with the results.

Printman..... ...there are 4-common run time issues with the frontmount 9N.

1) runs for about 1-min and quits. BAD condenser
NOT yer stated problem
2) runs for about 5-mins and quits. clogged fuel filters (3), usually INSIDE the fuel tank
NOT yer stated problem
3) runs for about 1-hr and quits. BAD squarecan ignition coil
NOT yer stated problem but could be
4) runs for about 15-mins and misses, boggs down and quits Sound like yer problem? BAD IGNITION SWITCH

Here the deal, yer weaksister ignition switch ($10, cheap) internal contacts gitt gunked up and heat-up and make WEAK SPARKIES which you kindda fake-out by enriching yer carb mixture with the choke (rich mixture ignites eazier)

One of the "founding N-Board Members", 10 years ago claimed 80% of all carb problems were eventually found in the IGNITION SYSTEM. What do you think?..... ..respectfully, Dell yer self-appointed sparkie-meister

Sounds like a problem I had. Could be dirty gas filters (3) that need cleaning or bad gas or both.
