I have a 8n front mount distributor.Thankyou for mmo oil tip for the compression. My problem now is that i cannot get fuel to run out the drain plug on the bottom of the carb. notice rust build up and cleaned. Is this the only purpose of this plug is to drain fuel. also notice the long metering jet goes in the same area. if I have blockage in this area will I still possibly have carb problems. Been using carb cleaner rust remover and welding tip cleaner to clean parts and holes. any other little tricks out there.

yes gas comes out of line. after working on it i got the two little drain holes in bottom of bowl cleaned out. now i need to know if the brass elbow with the filter that goes into carb can be puchased or is it a specific fitting for the carb.

Does gas run out the line from the tank if it is disconnected?

There is no real shortcut to rebuilding a carb. Pull it down in pieces & soak it at least overnight in the store-bought carb cleaner. Then, clean every orifice w/ the welding tips & blow it out w/ your compressor. Make sure the two halves are totally flat (use a metal straight edge) because if they are not, it will never idle correctly. Make sure the float drop is correct (a 1/4 inch drill bit works as a measuring device) Finally, the instructions & pics on this site are about as good as it gets.....good enough that this jack-leg got two N carbs rebuilt & both idle at less than 400 rpms!

Ditto, If you have ever rebuilt a Holley, Motorcraft, or GM carb, the carb on one of these tractors is a piece of cake. No where near as many passages to get cleaned out. Sounds like yours is well past rebuild time. That much stuff in the bottom usually means plenty of crud elsewhere.

Also, you might want to pick up another one of these carbs rebuilt for $50-%70, new $100-$175, or a decent take-off part for $25-$40. They are not rare. I like to have a second carb handy since it takes a lot less time to swap carbs than to rebuild one right. Sometimes you get a carb that just plain does not want to work. Having a good one to use while you try to figure out the other is a lot less frustrating.
