Ok guys, i've tried to figure this out before i posted this but can't figure out whats wrong. Back in the summer my 8n would up and quit, found out something was wrong with the carb, i could tap on it with a wrench and it would start back and run ok, well that got to be happening more and more till it wouldn't start back at all until it cooled down, i had the carb rebuilt last month, put it back on and it still does the same thing, i checked the spark and it has good spark after it dies, fuel is getting to the carb, its like its using what fuel is in the carb then has to wait for more to run down but the fuel flow is ok, it'll run for about 3-5 min and then die, wait about 5-10 min and it starts right back like nothing was wrong, what could it be???? condensor??

First remove the plug from the bottom of the carburetor and see if you have a good steady flow of fuel.

If not remove the fuel inlet elbow from the carburetor. If it still has the original fitting it will have a screen in the elbow and that may be plugged up. If it doesn't have the screen trash may have built up at the orifice of the needle seat.

I had the float/needle stick in mine with a brand new carb. If it has a float/needle with a rubber top I would replace it with one made of all metal. These don"t stick as easy. Also put a tester on one of your spark plug leads when it won"t start that should rule out your ignition troubles.

O my,wheres Dell! He does it better than anyone and he "loves"it.He would say,,, itsyer front mount square can coil. Or he might say ,,yer $10 cheap ing.switch.Course I can"t speak fer him so I"ll say I think you should check those.Coil gets hot so does switch after about 10 min.and then they break down.??? don"t understand that.

Probably is a plugged fuel screen or two. You might also try opening the gas cap in case the gas tank vent is plugged.

Fuel is getting to the carb?? but is it getting inside the carb? You know that there is a screen in the elbow that screws to the carb don't you? Tapping on the carb and making it work to start with makes me think of this screen being plugged. In rare cases I guess the float could stick in the up position and cause the same symptoms.

Do what Bruce said. The fact that you have some fuel does not mean that it has enough fuel to run well or pull a load. Don't forget about the tank vent also. Run it a little with the cap loose and see if it gets better. Gotta have good fuel supply. As an old mechanic once said "sounds like it's the fuel, the fire er sumptin"
That about covers it all:^)

You're kind of losing me here..... does it have a good fuel flow or not? And, is this a 6v or 12v, front or side distributor? When it stops running, remove the bolt in the bottom of the cab. If fuel flows out in a steady stream, you have fuel. If not, work your way 'up stream' & clean each or the three fuel screens. And, it's not your condenser. If it's not fuel, the next time it stops, jump your ignition switch. could also be a bad ballast resistor (if it has one)

its front mount 6 volt, i took the line loose off the carb and had a good fuel flow, i'll try the gas cap, the screen in the carb was pretty clean.

Remove the bolt in the bottom of the carb, not the fuel line. Your float/needle valve could be sticking.

When ye remove the bottom plug on the carburetor see if ye can get about a pint of gasoline coming out of the hole in the bottom of the carburetor at good flow like a young man urinating. If not ye have fuel restrictions.
