Front mount 8N wire loom question

I have the newly refirbished wire loom installed on the top of my 48 8N engine and am getting ready to weave the wires through it. After looking at it for a while, I am not sure how the wires run in and out of it. There are 4 holes - one on the inside of the curved part, one just behind the #1 spark plug, one just in front of the #2 spark plug, and one just in front of the #3 spark plug. Now I assume the #4 spark plug wire just runs out the end as that plug is pretty far behind the end of the wire loom tube. I assume the #3 spark plug wire comes out the hole closest to that plug, and likewise for the #2 spark plug wire. Now - does the #1 spark plug wire come out of the loom on the hole BEHIND the #1 spark plug, or the hole in front of it at the inside of the bend? If it comes out the hole behind the plug like I would guess - what wire runs out/in the hole at the bend? Why didn't they design the holes to line up right next to the plugs (we may never know this)?

Also - where does the holder that holds the #1 and #2 spark plug wires to keep it out of the belt mount at? I cannot find a good pic of the mounting location.

TIA,
Dan

If ye check the FO-4 Manual on pg.48 it plainly shows the #4 plug wire coming out the back end of the conduit BUT check on pg 119 and ye will see that lt appears to come out of the #4 hole as does 2 other wires going to the voltage regulator. I don't recall without looking but when I ran mine on my 1947 N it just seemed apparent where they went as I installed them. Your call, I guess, it is your tractor.

Dan..... ..I can't believe you haven't looked at the N-Ford MPC pgs #69, which clearly shows the tube and sparkie wire NOT coming out the #2 hole which is closest to #1 sparkie. And also look at pgs #164 for the front of the block cyl #1&2 wireholder location..... ..Dell, the NON-expert

And "I" can't believe you do not remember that I DO NOT have that manual. We discussed that back on October 30th (grin). I have a reproduced "Assembly and Service Parts Catalog" for models 9N - 2N - 8N tractors 1939 - 1952 (Reproduced under licensing agreement with Ford Motor Company). I STILL need to get a MPC :-)

Just ribbin' ya.

Hope this helps. The pic is huge so included a link to the full size version.

Also, here is a link to a full-size pic that may answer your first question:

Perfect - I was looking for a pic like that. The full sized version is big enough to see you have a crack in the side of your coil! What is that cable going into the top of your bellhousing?

Thanks,
Dan

Of course, you made me go out and check the coil! ;) No, it's not cracked - that's just a scratch.

That cable going into the bellhousing is the shifter for the Sherman Underdrive.

Dan, you can kind of see where the one that holds them out of the belts go in this pic of my 48..believe it's one of the front cover bolts that holds it.. It was dark before i got home last night, but I'll try to get you some better pics of that 9N stuff soon..

Yep - I was searching for the pic you posted a few months back where I saw that holder for the first time in my life. I ordered one from my online parts guys the next day and am just now getting to the point of needing it. That is where I guessed it went - but wanted confirmation.

Thanks,
Dan
