Well folks for the ones who have been following my plight to aquire an 8N here is an update. I found a 1948 8N with a brand new 5 foot finish mower. I was able to trade my 1220 straight across for this rig. This tractor runs like a dream. compression readings 118-117-119-120 great oil pressure and beautiful paint. This tractor belonged to a little old man who took great care of it and housed it in a heated barn everynight. He passed away and the tractor was sold to my dealer friend who called me and said he had the perfect N for me. I mowed all day with the tractor and I love it. I named him Vernon and he is resting this evening in my shop. Sometimes things just work out great. WooHOO

Congrat Robert sounds like you got a good one. I had the same thing happen to me. The old guy I got me 50 N from had owned it for several years and gone through him with a fine tooth comb. He's been a dream with only a bad coil one time in the two tears I've had him. He has his own shop to sleep in now ( as he did before) and is already well loved by all the grandkids , and the neighbors as he is does snow work cuz he likes playing in it. Of course when I brought him from the previous owner all I kept hearing was how Pops loved that tractor--- I never caught the guy's name but -- he is Pops to all of us now in his honor. Barry

Oh Congratulations, Robert!!! I am so happy for you, especially after you had such a sad experience before. And I bet Vernon's previous owner -- the little old man who clearly cared so much about him -- is as happy now as you are, to know his pride and joy has a good home. What a wonderful story for the night before Thanksgiving! Thanks for sharing it, and for letting us know how it all came out! --Dawn

The little old mans name was Vernon I felt it was proper and fitting to name the tractor after him. Anyhow Vernon the man, not the tractor had a big stroke a month ago and just wanted the tractor to go to a good home. I have big shoe to fill now taking care of Vernon the tractor.

Actually, if Vernon (aka "Vern") was this tractor's dear friend, then it follows that the tractor's name must of course Ernest P. Worrell, Know what I mean?

I think that's PERFECT, to give his tractor his name. What a lovely thing, all around!! I have no doubts at all that you'll fill Vernon the man's shoes very well. :-) --Dawn
