Well Bob..... ..did you think to check yer tranny interlocked safety switch? Very simple to do. Just puttchur tranny in NEUTRAL and SHORT the switch terminal to ground with a screwdriver blade. Iff'n it turns yer starter motor over, guess what? BAD tranny mounted switch.

Gonnna assume that when you replaced yer starter motor mounted solenoid, you mounted so the little middle terminal is FACING BLOCK and hard to gitt-too. Otherwize, the internally hot solenoid will NEVER CLICKIE..... ...Dell

First, why did you replace the solenoid? Assume there was some kind of symptoms before unless this was just preventative maintenance or a cosmetic upgrade.

If the start switch was working before, it seems odd to me that it would suddenly fail because you changed the solenoid. But that is really easy to check. Just make darn sure the tractor is in neutral and ground the post on the solenoid.

Make sure the terminals on both sides of the solenoid are clean, brite, and tight. Ditto, battery cables, clean and tight at both ends.

Also, make sure you have the correct 6-volt Ford Tractor solenoid. The automotive look-alike Ford solenoid won't work because the start terminal is looking for voltage from a start switch and the tractor grounds the start terminal. Then, like Dell already said, mount so the start terminal is towards the block and hard to get to.

Thank you all for your thinking and quickly on this. Here is where I am. I grounded the safety switch wire-attachment to the trany cover, but nothing-no sparks or sound. But I had just run the tractor so then I got a selenoid from the auto store(in a hurry). This new selenoid had a sticker said "bat" on the end that put the smaller screw pole sticking out front(for starter wire), unlike previous ones which had it out back! so I turned the sel around anyway-still nothing-no spark or noise. By now the bat may be dead. Bob
