I still have not found a good part number for a 12V coil for Oriellys but I did see OLD's reply. Now, the question...
Did misunderstand the reply; "The part number is Borg/Warner E-58. Its a 6 volt coil not a 12 volt one so a ballast resister is needed". Are you saying that if I have converted to 12 volts and have a good 6V coil I can add the resistor, cutting down the voltage to the coil down to 6V I can run the 6V coil and be ok? I have the coil I replaced when I converted to a 12 volt system and I am sure it is ok, but it is not marked, so I assumed it was 6 volt as the tractor still had a 6v generator and original wiring harness. Thanks for any help, we may have bad weather tomorrow night and I would like to resolve this quickly.

I double checked today and all O'reillys lists is the 6 volt coil B/W E-58 but the nice thing is the life time warrenty they have so if you burn it up they will replace it for free but the cost up front hurts at around $65 and the is for the front mount

NAPA has a real 12 V coil (IC-14SB) for about $15.No ballast resitor needed as it's built in.

Ron: I had that same problem once. I keep my 2N in the work shop, so I took the key to the shop and put it on the tractor key ring, walla, if I forget when I leave the shop, I go back to get the key out of the ign. No more leaving the key on the 2N. LOL GB

Front-mount distributor, right?

The 6-Volt coil can be used on 12-Volts by adding a "converting resistor" of 1.6 to 1.8 Ohms in series with the OEM ballast resistor.
