External hydraulic oil leak

Well, after rebuilding the hydraulics and PTO on my 1941 9N, I reassembled everything and am now facing a small external hydraulic oil leak coming from the front of the hydraulic pump mounting area underneath the tractor. During the reassembly process, I did notice that the gasket didn't fit overly well. I suppose it may have bunched up. I currently have a drip pan underneath, but aside from dropping the pump, are there any easy fixes I can try? I've already cranked down the mounting bolts as far as I dare. A search of the Archives only yielded how to handle internal leaks and not external ones.

This is one of those times when the only right way is a do-over. I pulled the pump out of mine last year to clean an incredible amount of gook out of the sump. When I put it back I just set the gasket on the pump and raised it up with my floor jack. Had to jiggle and wiggle it to get it to slide up into place but when I got it close it was fairly easy to re-position the gasket and get a couple of bolts started. The floor jack was holding all the weight. Once I had a few bolts started I rechecked the gasket to make sure it was right before I started tightening anything down. No gasket goo of any kind on mine and it has not leaked a drop since I did it.

I really don"t like the silicone stuff on gaskets to hold them in place. I use 3M weatherstrip adhesive, they make it in black and yellow. This stuff is resistant to oil and water and steam. I only put on the part being installed and then line up the gasket and let it dry, then install the part, and most gaskets dont require extra anything. This should keep your gasktes from bunching up and working corectly. he only place I use any kind of silicone is in the corners of the oil pan gaskets. The rest go dry except fot the 3M adhesive to keep them in place.

I am going to assume that it is the same as a 48 8N, but I may be wrong.

When reinstalling the hydro pump in mine, it is a very, very agraviting thing.

I have a bad back, an this usually puts me in the bed afterwards.

It seems nearly impossible to get the thing back in right place and still have the gasket in place.

When I do finally get the gasket all stuck on with silicone to where it will stay put....

I seem to have to forget using the jack or whatever, and manhandle it in place front first, and you just have to feel it when you do get it in and in just the right place somehow you can tell, and then "hindge" up the back, then get the jack to hold it there while I rest enough to get a couple of bolts in it.

I hope that helps.

Correct me folks if I am wrong folks.
