Guys I really need help now!! A couple of weeks ago the ole girl shut off while I was cutting grass after about an hour! Would not restart! I believe that the distrib was the last of the ignition system to be replaced except for the actual switch that I think is ok!! I have a new switch but it is not a match to the existing! 2 wires instead of 3! Anyway, is the problem not there!! If not then where???? She turns over just fine and I have fire at the points and the plugs!!! What is going on????? Any suggestions?????

Before you go too far, make sure you haven't a fiber cam gear that's now missing some teeth. Pull the distributor cap and make sure your rotor is turning. Then make sure it is still timed. Good luck, let us know what it is!

pull the air cleaner tube, and put your hand over the hole and hit the starter to see if you have a good strong suction. next pull a couple plugs to see if they have gas-oil or black wet or dry soot on them, if they do put in a new set of auto lite AL437 plugs. RP

You say that the fuel is making it to the carb but, is it getting into the carb. The elbow that screws into the carb should have a real fine screen on it. Check that by turning the elbow out. Make sure that it's clean. Then put it back in, turn the gas on, take the plug out of the bottom of the carb and make sure that you have a good flow for a couple minutes. If you use a clean container, you can put the gas back in the tank. If you have no flow, the needle could be stuck in the seat or the float could be bent and catching on something. Also, you may have a vacuum problem. If your positive that the ignition system is ok, take the tube between the carb and air cleaner off and shoot some gas into the carb. If is doesn't try to start, I'd start looking for a vacuum problem.

OK, remember that I am a total novice at this, but if your electrical system seems ok then the first place I'd look is the fuel system. Just do a quick check to make sure you've got gas coming out at all the major points where you can check it -- the sediment bowl, the line that comes into the carburetor, uh ... maybe those are the only places. But you could have a wad of something glopped over a filter screen or something that's totally blocking fuel. Especially since it initially quit when you were mowing.

My 2cents, which should really leave you with about a penny and a half in change! LOL But I hope it at least helps a little. :-)

I know exactly what you mean Dawn, I'm not even a novice!!! I will check the fuel system and see what I can find!! The reason I went to the ignition system is because of something I read in trouble shooting tips somewhere!! And that I had just replaced the carb a couple of months ago!! Thanks for the quick comments, I check it out!!!

Checked out fuel system and the sediment bowl is clean, it has new gas, and the fuel is making it to carb in a nice unobstructed flow!! Also like I mentioned before the carb is only a few months old and has ran like a champ the entire time until a few weeks ago!!
