My dad has told me this story for years probably 100 time or more. His dad got a 9N back around 1940 and his nieghbor had a farmall 10-20 and the guy would laugh at the 9N. Well one day my grandfarther said lets hook them up draw bar to draw bar and see which one would pull the other. Well they did but with the 9Ns 3 point as told to me they hooked them up but when both clutches where let out the 9N walked away with the other tractor because it didn't have the traction because the 9N was lifting the 10-20 up enough to make it spin the rear wheels. Now if this is true I don't know but its a tall my dad has told me for 25-30 years. Just a tall tail or truth you be the judge

I don't know about that but twenty years ago I pulled a neighbors 4wd Deutz-Allis out of the mud with my 52 8N. The tractors were about the same hp but the diffy on my 8N was at least 3 times the size of his.

I worked with a man, whose father-in-law had a 9N and his neighbor had an F-20. The F-20 owner kept razzing the 9N owner about his little tractor. They hooked drawbar to drawbar and the 9N pulled the F-20 backward across the barn lot.
As I understand it, they were good friends so it was all in fun.

We had a neighbor that would brag about his zipped up farmall m. He was knockin our jd G. We chained the drawbars together and old 2 pop dragged that farmall across the yard like nobodys business.

To add a little credence to this.. I once had a 'pull-off' using my 1979 jap yanmar 1700 tractor vs the neighbors shiny new craftsman rider lawnmower.

My yanmar was 21 eng hp. and was a small frame scut.. real tractor.. diesel engine.. 3pt lift.. etc..

His was a rider lawnmower.. "25" hp..( yeah right ).

Neighbor always told me his new lawnmower would pul more.

We did that little hookup by bolting his rear clevis flange to my 3pt drawbar ( no swinging drawbar on a yanmar 1700 ). This tractor had live hyds.. so right before we let the clutches out, i lifted his mower's rear up, and off i went. he got a little mad.. so i set him down and we tried again.. this time.. no lift. i still drug him around.. I was at idle, and he was maxed out. Those little balloon turf tires were spinning like a blender.. while my 'rice' agressive ag tires just made nice little dimples all over his back lawn.

I tried to tell him you can't send a lawnmower to do a tractor's work... And reguardless of the fact that lowes and HD and sears call them lawn tractors.. they 'ain't'.
