I read an email one day that went thru the numbers of war dead in WW2 and how that generation (my Dad's) was the greatest generation of Americans. The email also said that if you could read the email, thank a teacher; if you were reading the email in English, thank a vet...

My grandfather served 3 years on the submerine USS Skipjack, SS-184, in the South Pacific. They had several close calls, but grandpa made it back home to purchase the farm from his father, where he raised dairy cattle for 44 years. He"s now 86, an avid reader of naval history, and very much a role model for his grandson.

I hear people all the time talking about how the thinking of the nuts in the Arab world can't be changed. I disagree! The Japaneese people had their thinking changed! Our men in uniform and the people who supported them like my mother working in a powder packing plant changed their way of thinking. It can be done if done right and with everybody on the same page.

I have a brother in law who is now 83 years old and in poor health who was in the envasion of Iwo Jima. These and thousands of other boys who are now dead or who are like him are getting old deserve a lot more from us and our government than they have ever received. Of course we could never repay them no matter how much we paid them.

Thank you veterans of combat! I salute you! For those already gone I thank you and your families!

Zane

I was at the USS Arizona memorial this morning. This is a great state all Americans should enjoy.
One survivor that was with us got cut out of the USS Oklahoma after it capsized. Another guy won the congressional medal of honer for getting at some ammo and shooting down planes. WOW. What else can I say but thanks. I travle for my job and would say this is one of the best places I've been. Best of all it's in the USA. I am at the airport in Honalulu waiting on the 11:25 PM red eye to Denver. Thanks to the Vets and especially to the ones that gave all.

My uncle just passed away in '03. He was at Pearl when it was attacked. He would never talk about it, but I do know that is when he lost a finger. Many brave soldiers lost far more.

I am actually ashamed that todays politicians are such self serving wimps driven by pole data that has been manipulated by a far left press corps. Just think about the D-Day or the Battle of the Bulge and how America would have reacted to it with todays press corps covering and manipulating the news. How about Iwo Jima? It would be a toss up whether we would all be speaking German or Japanese.

(Moment of Silence for all the soldiers that have give their all,so that we may have our freedom..... ..)

That generation is quickly fading away, they fought and defeated madmen on two sides of the world at the same time. I hope those folks who fought that war are never forgotten.

Thanks for the reminder. I am a generation removed from WWII, and all the Vets who were around when I was growing up are gone, along with their fascinating stories. My kids, of course, don't have a clue, having never heard the war stories, and the family stories of rationing, and shortages of manpower, inputs, repairs, tires, and fuel on the family farm.

Yet, that generation overcame the enemy, and also fed the world, from the good old USA!
