Thanks guys, I thought it sounded like too good of a deal !So I guess it's really an 800 series; pimped up, I had never heard of a sauder loader, it does look a bit cheesy. I love the idea of an auto trans but i have read of thier reputation. guess I'll let someone else have this " bargain"

The picture posted above of the 4000 with the forks on the back: My grandfather has this identical tractor. Very unique steering set-up. The control valve is bolted to the rear of the single steering cylinder (pictured). This cylinder has a very large 3/4 inch diameter rod and bolts directly to the control valve at rear for rear linkage purposes. I NEED A REPLACEMENT FOR THE CYLINDER ONLY. Can anyone help?

Sailor:

That is a good looking early 4000. I have one very similar but without the loader. This tractor is essentially the same as an 871.

It has power steering which will be helpful with the loader. It also has the Select-O-Speed transmission as does mine. I like the S-O-S but many folks do not. Generally, S-O-S equipped tractors sell for $1,000 - $1,500 less that those with 5 speeds.

Ford got real creative in naming their tractors back in the sixties. That "4000" with the loader is nothing but an 800 series in disguise. Absolutely the same tractor with a different paint job. Then there was the other 4000 that was made in Timbuctu with the Ford paint scheme disguise. They also did the same thing in the same years with the 2000. Same as the 600 series. then they came up and named the Dexta 2000?????

You think you are confused! You should have been a Ford tractor parts man or mechanic in those years like I was. I kept a crystal ball on the counter to give me some insight into what a farmer was asking about????? ? Ever try to get an old farmer to tell you if it is on the left or the right side of the tractor????? Acording to most of them it depends on how you are looking at it. I would ask them which was their left hand and they would just give me that blank stare. I had ulcers too!

I had a "newly rebuilt" diesel Dexta 2000 for a couple of days till I could talk the guy in to coming back and getting it, and keeping $200 of my hard earned money for his trouble of bringing it out here and taking it back.

It had so much "blow by" that you could hardly breathe plowing my 5 foot all purpose plow that my 8N pulls well.

Then when you would push in the clutch and stop, it would puke out about 1/2 gallon of water, and quit, and refuse to crank again until you let it cool off about 20 minutes.

Wore slap out it was!!

I did get the place bush hogged, and the garden plowed up though.

At the time I had the 8N down for a rebuild.

Loaderlooks to be light weight, depending on what you plan too use it for. Also check out the sos transmission, can be costly to repair.Tractor looks to be in good shape.Where are you located in Jersey,I'm I Flemington and also own a 62'4000, Gas with a four speed tranny.Good tractor lots more power than an 8n.As far as that p/s leak ,all that is is probably a seal.I'll leave my e-mail open if you need any more info.
