Just out of curiosity, does anyone have any idea how many "N"s are still operational? Still see quite a few around. Appears to me that the most popular tractors now in that size are Kubotas.

For the most part they are rite handy, cheap to operate, not bad to werk on. Parts are cheap compared to other makes ready available and reproduction parts will not break ya either. They have a nostalgia appeal to’em. That like sum other tractors sorta scare ya away from. People see that if they tackle a restoration no matter what type of restoration they plan it izz acceptable to the N crowd. Its acceptable to restore one and put it back to werk just like they were made fer. Theirs plenty of’em around here that kin not be brought fer no money, I guess these people remember the horse and mule days to well. These old N’s have made me a shot gun rider, I had rather look fer’em than drive. I never travel the same roads going or coming even if one izz way out of the way. It always amazes me that down sum narrow wine’in roads to no were you kin spot a few N’s are sum equipment made by Ford/Ferguson. Most important izz most of the N guys that hang out cheer have been around the block and offer the best advice I have found enny were. For the most part we have learned to live together and take a lick’in and keep on tick’in just like these old Fords. I hope more people buy Bota"s so I kin have more N"s. Sides, Bota werk pays better.

I have a 9n and a 641 that I use around the little farm-big garden. there is a landscaper that uses a 8n and a 840 along side of his dozer and backhoe. there are more than a dozen that I recall seeing in my county on a regular basis. Dale in farm country VA.

Heck, I have five just at my place. Three of which are in various stages of refurbishment but will be in working condition in the near future. Next door neighbor has one. A gent just a few miles from where I live that sells and works on car, truck and tractor tires told me he has eight of them around his place that all need repairs but in fairly solid condition for the most part. In the rural area where I live, fifty miles SW of St. Louis, Mo. you can't go anywhere without seeing working Ns in various conditions but still out there being used and abused..... .....
I've noticed too that when I travel on my motorcycle out west on the 2-lane roads Ns are pretty much all over if I watch for them.
In a nutshell, they're all over yet. A bunch !!

There are 6 8n's within 1 mile of my place. I do the service work for all of them. I own 2 of the 6.

A discussion a few years ago with a guy who owns a tractor boneyard led me to believe that many have been scrapped over the years. He was bemoaning the fact that he had partsed out and scrapped what could be a personal fortune in todays market. He was even sorry for all the Mpls-Molines that he had sent over the scales..by the semi load..his semi no less. About 30 years ago there were many unconfirmed rumors about the jockeys buying up the N's and shipping them to Mexico and South America. I have seen pictures of N's working the fields of Mexico, but never could believe the transport cost + purchase price + fixing it for resale + profit could equal what a poor Mexican farmer could pay for it. Can anyone verify such export rumors?

This probably also qualifies as just rumor rather than confirmation, but several years ago I was talking on the phone with a tractor dealer in New Mexico. He told me that in the 60's he would sell all his trade-in N's for $150 a piece to an outfit that would load them on a flatbed and take them to Mexico.

If I thought real hard, I could probably remember the locations of at least 12 in my home town (one of which is an aluminum hood 9N, sn 9N254). Then there's probably another 6 NAA and Hundred series here, too.

I read several years ago that out of 750,000 produced, 500,000 are still working. Don't know how accurate the numbers are, but it was believeable.

Can't tell you how many are left but I would bet if you took every one that is still around and parked them on a 40 arce field side by side so tires where touching you would have to stack them 7 plus high just to get them in that 40 arces. Or if you put them end to end you could probably have a line of them that would go from one coast to the other coast. Or in other words theres still a lot of them out there

your response made me think of the lyric's to a Jerry Reed song "all the cars place end to end would reach to the moon and back again, and there'd probably be some poor fool pull out to pass." Makes me chuckle every time I hear it!

The tie in is the song name, Lord Mr. Ford (Henry Ford), speaking on the wonders of the automobile.

I know of four 8N's within five miles of my house that still work every weekend in the summer (and the summers are long here in FL)and there is a local repair guy that always has a hanfull of Ns for sale that he buys and fixes up. Based on how quickly he rotates stock, he must sell a few a week.

There are more than you might think. Many have there one special job and only get to work a few times a year, while the newer fully optioned tractors are taking the stage.

There is no way of telling for sure, except there are many parts suppliers that seem to be doing well. That's got to be a pretty good indication! As for locally, just on the four mile stretch of road I live on, there are 2 NAAs and 2 8Ns still workin'!
