Any neat tricks for cleaning the fuel filter inside the gas tank on my 53 Jubilee? I've cleaned the sediment bowl screen already. I can't clean the one at the carb inlet....my carb is missing this one!

My tractor is on property away from my garage full of tools and supplies. I just want to pursue all possible tricks before draining the fuel.

I was thinking of taking a portable battery operated air compressor and blowing air up through the fuel line to at least temporarily free the fuel filter of debri. Seem reasonable?

After disconnecting the fuel line at the carb I'd carefully arch the fuel line upward so it was above the fuel level in the tank. Then, I'd open the sediment filter valve. Blow air through the line and try to free the filter of debri.

I know the debri would reaccumulate but this could at least be diagnostic...

Paul.

I would remove the tank clean and line with Por-15. Fer git about it fer a nutter 50 years. Possible replace it if need be. I kin not understand why enny one would mess with a know problem specially one that they know will put’em to walk’in. I kin not believe one of the answer’s ya got on this. Iffin in a jam git a big old magnet and apply to the bottom of the tank next to the shut off it’ll help, blow it out and werk toward a permanent fix. Or use yer mouth as has been suggested.

I don't like it much. I took the bowl off and no fuel, so I insert an angle straw and a little air opened it right up. It stopped out in the Field one day and thats what I had in the truck. I know everyone takes the line off at the carb and uses their lips, but the bowl is off already. Oh, and the screen is missing from the bowl unit. I bet it blew off from the air hose or just rotted off. I gotta get one for it. Thanks Dale in VA.

paul, I have rust build up in my 9n gas tank. Common problem I've learned. It's mostly cleared out now, though some small stuff still gets into the bottom of the sediment bowl. I took my bowl off after draining fuel and found a hardend trash build up inside the inlet from tank to bowl. Cleaning this out has stopped my fuel clogging trouble. Before I had to keep a straw and a rag on the tractor. Each time the fuel would stop up, I'd blow air through the staw and clear it out long enough to run a little longer. BE careful not to drink gas though. I did use an air hose, but worried the air pressure, gas and hot engine was just to crazy for me. good luck with it. Dale in VA.

I do that all the time out in the field but I use my month to do it. If its clogged so bad you can't blow it out then its clogged up bad and you will probably have to drain the fuel out.

I've done what you are suggesting MANY times over the years, with equipment out in the middle of nowhere.

Sure, it' not the proper fix, but it may last a LONG time, or a short while, but it may get you going for a while. Just be sure to loosen the gas tank cap.

However, with a tough clog, and LOTS of air pressure, you could possibly break the sediment bowl, or stretch the wire "bail".

BE CAREFUL, since gasoline is involved.

Thanks Bob.

I don't think I have a fuel restriction since I have fairly good flow from the port at the bottom of the carb. But, I want to be prepared so I have all the possible tools and supplies in my truck when I visit the tractor at our property.

Paul.
