I have noticed this board sure runs good and smooth since Dell has not been posting all his gibberish with his condesending attitude. No one is fighting, name calling, or trying to cause problems. Do you see my point? DELL, If you read this, DON'T COME BACK. gringo

What is with this forum? It seems as of late all that anyone can do is poke at or pick on long standing members. Cowman's gone, now there are those turning on Dell.

If you don't like it, don't read it...

I was "new" here once to. Dell gave me advice, never once making me feel inferior. I solicited for an answer, I got one and it helped me out.

Gring is loco... you can go now.

Sorry, I gotta weigh in here in favor of DELL. I don't read this every day, but have off and on for a number of years and I can't recall ever seeing anything that DELL wrote that was offensive or insulting. I always appreciate his irreverence and sense of humor.
Come on back DELL. Most of us miss you!

Dell may be a very nice guy; I don't know him. I do find his writing style here to be offensive and rude, especially to a newcomer, which I recently was. Advice does not have to be given in a sarcastic and rude manner. I quit reading Dell's posts due to his style and that is unfortunate because he has a lot of knowledge that can help people. I would welcome Dell's return if he improved his mannerisms.

I don't post here on the N Board much since finishing up restoring my 1950 8N. However YT is in my favorites and opens on the N board so I usually read a few posts before moving on to the OT board.

I can tell you that Dell, along with others, was a great asset for me in my project. There were a lot of times I would have had to of taken my tractor to a shop to repair something that I wound up doing my self thanks to the good people on this board.

No offense Mr. Gringo but if a vote was taken on who should leave - you or Dell - I know where the good money would bet. My advice is if you find him or anyone else irritating just don't bother reading their posts.

As someone who HAS actually MET Dell and hosted him in my home, I feel qualified to tell you that your assessment of him is @ss-backwards. He MAY not understand all of the ins and outs of computer language and protocall BUT, he is as gracious and socialable a person as you'd ever want at your table.

I'd take Dell ANY day over 10 of your sort.

Come to think of it, I've not met ANY member of this board in person that didn't INCREASE my liking for them.

Even your 'handle' speaks to your narrowness of mind.

How about YOU go instead?

If'n your electrons are NORTH of the equator, they will spin CW. CCW in'N SOUTH of the equator.

This is known as "CORIOLIS" effect.

However, be known that I have been polar-dearranged enough years ago with having a few RMI's.

Here we go again in reply to gringo, 12-12-2006 17:03:26
Here we go again - usually pops up about once every six months or so. Dell is indeed an asset to this board. That said - I don't much like his method of delivery on help. Not too many people like to be a new owner of an antique tractor and when they find this great board to post a question on a problem they are having, it is a good chance they will basically be called an idiot if Dell replies. NOBODY likes to be belittled. I believe the exact same help could be delievered in a much more newbie freindly format as to not run off new blood to this forum.

Me and Dell have had our spats in the past (he basically called me an idiot for not knowing something that should be "intuitively obvious" for any Electrical Engineer - which I am not, and I don't put up with that kind of treatment) - and no, his reply was not appreciated. I know he helps a lot of people here, but most of the people he helps are the readers of posts where guys ask questions and get a tongue lashing from Dell - they are not the recipients of the verbal abuse, just the bystander. There are plenty of others who will help in a more respectful manner. I would rather have 10 guys who kinda know an issue help me politely, than one who is a guru who talks to you like an abusive father.

Before any Dell lovers get upset at my post - this is JUST MY OPINION - like everyone is entitled to. I do like the diversity of this board, and understand it takes all kinds of personalities to make a online community. However, we do not need to run off new blood to this hobby giving them a bad taste of this site and antique tractor folks in general - and I have seen it happen personally with several due to Dell's replies over the years I have been here. I try my best to help everyone in a friendly manner, even though I don't know as much as Dell or several others here.

I don't dislike Dell as a person - but you never see me ask directly for his help neither, and he rarely replies to my posts as well. There are way to many other knowledgable people I can get good advice from like I have in the years since our spat.

Just my $.02,
Dan

With all due respect Gringo, Dell helps--its free speech and he has a way of putting things in perspective that is the unvarnished truth. So, when looking at ground truth--don't see where you have helped as much as he has--at least running your name through the search engine. If you don't like it, exercise your right to go somewhere else.

Just curious if indeed you are the same person who last posted in 2001.

Anyway let's hope Dell remains a good fellow and that Santa brings him a new computer or at the very least a new operating system, so he can be back online ASAP.

Mr Gringo,

I think that you exhibit incredibly immature social skills, somewhat on the level of needing professional help. Use your Christmas present money to begin a program with a good psychiatrist, it will probably pay much bigger dividends than some coveted N parts or tools.

As you must be well aware, we all have some idiosyncracies that bother others. But most importantly, lets judge each other by the good things we do, and not by something that bothers us.

As for DELL, I see a very bright man who has shown incredible patience in helping others. I wish that I (or you) could stand on those same credentials!
