I just had my starter rebuilt on my 1952 8n. When it get cold out, I have to choke it and when I turn the key on and push the starter button down it starts, But as soon as I let off from the button it kills. Now I have to leave the starter button in for about 10 seconds or so until something warms up, than I can release the button and it will keep running. Did the Guy do a bad job on the starter?

First off, is it 6v or 12v? Next, just because we sometimes use different terms for the same part, are you calling the 'starter button' the large thumb button on top of the transmission? Or, is your starter button somewhere else? And, was the solinoid replaced when the starter was rebuilt?

It is a 6 Volt, yes the starter button is on top of the transmission. when the starter was rebuilt it was never mention anything about replacing the solinoild, so my quess would be no, it was not replaced.

Using the choke to start in cold weather is not unusual..... having to hold the starter button down is. So, the tractor starts & if you let off of the starter button, it dies? Are you sure it's starting & not just kicking the bendix out? The old style bendix was designed to kick out at a lower RPM than the new clutch type bendix, meaning that the engine would fire a few times, spin the flywheel faster than the bendix, the bendix would disengage, but the engine did not 'catch'. I can tell the difference between two of my N's, one with & the other w/o the clutch type bendix. Anyway, does that better describe your sitiuation? Which leads me to my next question..... when the starter was rebuilt, was the bendix replaced?

Sounds like carb...

Do you continue to hold choke out?

No,if I do keep the choke out it will flood it. I only have to hold the starter down when I don"t use it for a while. If it is in the carb what should I look for?
