My 1939 9N is painted with the 8N color scheme. I will of course rectify this when I bring it in for a rework. I have aquired some original items such as a cast iron PTO cover and an original toolbox that I am piddling on. I wire wheeled them and now want to paint them for later assembly. I went to Tractor Supply as that is were I usually get my paint from. They do not carry a Ford battleship grey for the 9N and 2 N tractors there, but they had a Massey Ferguson grey that looked close (heresy - I know). I picked up one can thinking I could paint over it if I did not like the shade, and sprayed my PTO cover this morning. It came our surprisingly well as for the color. Now, I do not have a lot of experience with the 9N tractors, so any of you 9N/2N guys out there please chime in if you have used this shade of paint from TSC, and how do you think the final outcome was. Also, any pics of the final product so I can see it in a larger scale than my small PTO cover would be very helpful.

TIA,
Dan

Dan,
I am going to use this brand. I hear it is a match.

Thanks guys - those pics look exactly like what I envisioned for my 9N. Looks like TSC MF Grey it is!

Here's a pic of dad's 2N when we got it put back together. It's painted with TSC MF gray. I matched it to a paint sample from inside the air cleaner and it was a dead ringer for the original color.

Dan...I'm not a 9N/2N guy(yet), but I used the M-F grey on these implements:

I think the TSC paint, along with its hardener, will hold up just fine.

As far as color, I always had good success with taking an orig. part with its paint to the Sherwin Williams store. They always matched it pretty well with their industrial enamels. HTH
