a while back I found an "unknown part" in the bottom of my hydraulics. don b said it was the #73344 dowel pin that goes into the 680 ( control arm). I wanna replace it but can't seem to get the danged top off! I've removed everything by *the book*, but it just won't budge. Is it that heavy, or am I missing something? Thanx for the help, that I am sure, will be here shortly. Poot

Look close and count bolts you removed. I bet there are still two bolts you missed near rhe lift arms.

My 8N cover was glued down with some sort of gasket sealer. I ended up driving a putty knive into the gasket at the rear (away from the pressure access.
It only wrecked the gasket and made no marks on the metal. Once the cover started up, I still had to work around to finally get it free.
And my lift arms were on the housing, suggest you remove them as it is quite heavy. More like 80 lbs than 50.

Ok.. if this is an 8n top cover.. and you have taken out all of the bolts around the outside edge, and she won't move, then the gasket is likely glueing it down... or the prev owner used some goop or shelac to glue it down.

The best way I have found to pop it of fis to get a bottle jack and a piece of 2x4.. put the bottle jack almost under the back of the tractor, directly under the upper 3pt lift arm. Use thge 2x4 to make up the difference in height. Pump up the jack so that the 2x4 is putting rpessure on the under side of the lift arm.. thereby trying to raise the top cover. Top cover weighs?? 50-80# I guess.

Any.. pump the jack up enough so that the tractor tire relaxes a bit.. now.. take a deadblow hammer.. or copper maul / brass maul, and gently tap around the seam on the side you have lifted.. she shoulp pop right apart. A little more 'lift' may be needed. Try to resisst the urge to drive something like a chissle or screwdriver between the surfaces, so that yo don't mar them. While only the front right hand corner holds back pressure.. you don't want any imperfectionon another side holding the cover up.. etc.
