I am finally going to have to replace my rear tires and rims. The rims are the hat style and finally are starting to leak all over the place. I am having problems getting them free from the axle / brake drum studs. What do you guys do when a hammer and driving it around with loose nuts doesn't work? Can I drive out the studs? They are worn and need to be replaced at some time. Can they be driven out or does the drum have to be heated first? Thanks for any help.

Thanks guys. I got both wheels off and both spacer offset discs off the axles! I am waiting for my new rims now. those old rims served good for almost 63 years!!!

Use a heating/cutting torch to heat the bosses where the bolts go through until they are "RED H0T".

Allow them to cool to room temperature and out they will come.

If they are like the original rims for my 8N, the bolts have rusted and expanded so they are now much larger than the hole in the rim. After trying everything else, I finally took a 5/8" drill bit and drilled through the middle of the mushroom head until I was all the way through the hat of the rim. One done - 11 to go. I did not start on any of the other 11 bolts. I put those rims in my pile of original rusty parts and bought some of the new loop style rims to use for now.

Wow I hope not to drill! I am also getting new rims and saving these. I am out now working with it. I got the right side off tractor, and got all the nuts off spacer to rim peice. yes some broke off but that is ok. I am not really worried about spacer. I think that will not be so bad to remove if i can put rim flat on the ground. The other side is still stuck on the tractor.

Maybe somebody will have a fix, but with the Hat style rims I couldnt come up with a way to even get access to the problem. The rusty bolts had swelled to almost 1/8-inch bigger than the hole all the way around!
