Last week I finially got the old ('40) 9n started and unbeknown to me, a sparkie was loose. I noticed after a few unseccessful attempts to start it that one of the plugs was not tight. Also, there was gas escaping from the plug hole. I wiped the gas away and tightened up the plug, did a few othere things and I got it to start, but it does run a little ruff. Is the leakage from the plug hole a Bad sign of something wrong inside or is this ok? Merry Christmas to All from and old lurker.

Ye said it runs ruff. Ye may need to check that plug and be sure it has a washer on it or it may be misfiring.

Tightening the plug should have stopped the fuel from blowing out of the cylinder. Plug should be fine.

I'd replace that plug.. it may have a bad gasket.. or at least be way fouled from not hitting good on that cyl..

if the plug was loose, the gas/air mixture will be forced past it when the piston comes up on the compression stroke, its not nessassarily a sign of something wrong , glad you found that befor it blew the plug out of the head and buggered up the threads in the head,
