In the early 50's, my Dad bought his only new tractor and it was a Ford 8N and he bought the track option. I think he bought the tracks so he could better hold the tractor on our hills in the Willamete Valley area of Oregon while pulling a combine. I was pretty young then but I think he only used the tracks a couple of years and then decided they were too much of a hassle. My Dad passed away last fall and this summer my brother (who was not even born when my Dad used the tracks) intends to clean out my Dad's shop. We have located the tracks but need to know what other parts make up the track assembly. The strongbacks have been left on the tractor and my Dad used them to carry shovels and hoes on the tractor. We think the front idler wheels are under the tracks but don't know what other parts are needed to put it all together. If anyone has a parts list to show what is needed to put the assembly together, it would be appreciated. This rare option should not be lost.

Al..... .my sympathies in the loss of your father.

www.n-news.com has reprints of the 2 half-tracks attachment options avaliable for nominal fee. I'm certain someone will want this rare option, thank you for enquiring, and no, I really have no knowledge of its value, sorry..... ..Dell

Thanks for the tip. It took a bit of maneuvering around their site before I found the information on tracks. I will order the publications on the "bombadier" tracks because I don't think we have the Arps style which Ed sent information about. I was not asking anyone to appraise what we have; especially since we don't know if we can find everything. My comment was that this bit of tractor history should not be thrown away as junk.

Hi Al. If the tracks are the Arps brand, the following scans may be of help.

I've got one more page that I'll send to you directly via email because I'm sure it is too large for Photopoint to process.

Hope this helps..... ..... Ed

Thanks for the tip. However I don't think they are ARPS. I don't recall the spring installed on the rear axle. However the system must have some device to maintain downward pressure on the front idler. Maybe they relied only on gravity and the weight of the idler. The outside tension tubes are still mounted on the tractor and tied up out of the way. He couldn't have done that with the rear spring. We will check all the parts we can find and try to piece everything together before disposing of the rest of my Dad's collection. I am writing this from a state away from the tractor so please excuse my lack of information. Dell provided a link which also lists information from another vendor of the track option so I think I will order that one to see if the parts match. You saved me the cost of ordering both sets. Thanks.

I also have the Arps system halftrack but a different version-instead of the arms being located below the axle- on mine they are long straight 3"dia. tubes that mount to a bracket on the rear axle and then continue back to the springs. I'll look for pictures tonight.
