I am trying to remove the head on my 1948(?) 8N. I have all of the nuts/bolts off, but it is stuck on so hard I can't get it off. I have tried a few things, but don't want to ruin the head. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the suggestions, I will try the rope idea...sounds like a good one.

I think it is rust around one of the studs, but I am not sure which one. I have sprayed a ton of rust buster on all of them, and still have not had success, but I hope the rope idea will work.

Thanks again!!

This may be 1/2 a hair out of line... But I am curious.

Could it be one of them glued on with "copper coat"?

I have never put anything (sealer) on a head gasket.

I had an old 2 cylinder Elgin (Sears) outboard boat motor.

It had a blown head gasket when I got it.

It was "no longer supported in parts"

I found that a Ford auto exhaust gasket with the metal ring were the right size for the piston.

So I cut out the part of the right gasket out, and cut the manifold flange gaskets to fit where they should inside there.

We ran that boat for years, A set would only last for about 6 months, but we kept a good trolling motor and batteries just in case.

When she ran, she ran good.

I had the sane problem. Most likely corrosion around one of the studs(where a nut was removed)is holding tight. I knew which one of mine was the problem so I sprayed it with everything known to man(WD,PD etc) I finally stuffed rope in a middle cylinder and turned it over with the nut on the crank and broke it loose..

Theres a number for way to get it off and not hurt the head. One way is to fill the cylinders with some type of oil and then turn the engine over with the starter. Another way is push robe into all the cylinders and turn it over. Or you can fill the cylinders with grease. Any or all of them work just some make a big mess. Of course the oil or gease method you have to put the spark plugs back in.
