I'm a bit late weighing in on this, but I got one for about $30 at NAPA and it has the 3 adaptors for various spark plug types. It was easy to hook up and use, and the dial was large enough to read from where I had to stand to crank the engine. I was very pleased with it. --Dawn

LOL! Well, if I used a left-handed wrench, I am sure what would happen is I would get all messed up when I did the righty-tighty, lefty-loosey rhyme just before I twisted the head off a bolt and destroyed some irreplacable part. :-)

The tool(s) that you buy are represented by your pocketbook and your skills . An inexpensive compression tester, while not being perfectly accurate, will STILL tell you the Differences between cylinders....THAT is what counts.

I just bought an Actron last night from Pep Boys. they had 3 to choose from. starting at 29.99 going up to 39.99. I got the 39.99 one, because of the screw in feature and that it came with adapters for ALL other spark plug threads (for my other toys). It worked well with my tractor, and the extra length on the hose that the more expensive model came with seemed to make the job a little easier.

here's the one i bought:

Some of the compression testers screw into the sparkplug hole. Others have a rubber seal that you have to hold tight against the sparkplug hole. It can be hard to hold the tester tight and hit the starter button at the same time. Sooo, my recommendation would be to get one that screws in.

I got two of them. I just bought one the other day a Craftsman $60.00. It is pretty nice comes in a kit with different fittings. Tried it out on 3 tractors and I was happy with it. Then I got my Snap-on that was close to $250.00. You can also use it on diesel engines and it is more then you probably. What ever you do not buy one of them 22.00 dollar ones at Fleet Farm or Wal-Mart.
