Weedfarmer not that kind,

When I was at the local Ford dealership here in Talladega years ago there was a wealthy land owner who traded with us. He too was a "Weedfarmer" He raised Johnson Grass for hay and seed and did really well with it. Johnson Grass was the detriment to cottor farmers if their fields had much of it because it is very prolific and back before chemical farming it took a lot of labor and equipment to try and control it.

I asked him one day how did he come to be a Johnso Grass farmer when everybody else in this part of the world hated it with a passion??? He told me that when he was a young man he fell in love with a wealthy land owner's daughter and she with him but the girls daddy forbid them to even see each other after he found out about the relationship. So the man I knew said he decided to get even with the girls daddy by going out and gathering Johnson Grass seed and sowing it in all the man's cotton fields. Next cotton growing season the man's crop was disaster! Johnson Grass everywhere. Even on fields where there never had been Johnson Grass. The wealthy cotton farmer nearly lost the farm on account of the Johnson Grass problem. The guy who was our customer and raised the Johnson Grass for hay and seed married the land owner/cotton farmner's daughter and eventually inherited the land that was covered with Johnson Grass. The only thing the land was ever good for after the Johnson Grass was sown on it was to make hay from it. "Vengence is mine". You know the rest of the quotation.

Interesting story Zane, I picked that handle because about all I can get to grow with any success is a variety of weeds and sweet gum sprouts.

Zane: Amen on the Johnson Grass. My grandfather fought it for years in the cotton fields on our family farm in North Georgia. The only way we got rid of it was to start planting pine trees! GA Jim
