Ok guys one last thing I got a small threaded plug looks like the plugs at either end of the oil gally which I checked and know are thair and this little plug has red paint on the end so makes me think it goes on the outside of the engine sumwhere but I dont see where. the engine is on a hoist all assembled accept the flywheel and head. its exactly the same as the plug fer the oil gally but that aint where it goes. anyone got any ideas. Thankyou again fer all your help!!!

ok the oil gally is a tube that runs the length of the engin along side the cam and delivers oil to all the moving parts and haz a plug at either end sloted for a flat head screwdriver im not sure of the exact size but im guessin its bout a 5/16 fine theread. not the filter housin plug but good guess. this plug would screw in and sit flush with the wherever it goes. I did check and it is not the plug fer the oil gally, it has red paint on the end so it must go outside the engine sumware

I am not sure by your discription but could you be refering to the drain plug on the bottom of the filter canister? It's small and it's a plug.

What pipe size? 1/4, 1/8, 1/2, or outside diameter? in inches.

Did you have the plug where the water jacket drain petcock should have been? Just ahead of the starter.
