well the other day we got some snow, so I stayed up tell 1:30 in the morning to plow the driveway! I love driving my N.

Anyways I turned on the fuel and hit the starter, started up right away even tho it was around Zero degrees, I love my 6 volt! well I plowed for about an hour and drove her back in the shed and turned her off she ran like a champ, thats when I noticed that the radiator cap was still ice cold! I put my hands on the radiator hoses and they were cold as well, I then put my hand on the block and it was just "warm".

does any1 else have this problem with their 8N? I have never noticed this be4. and yes it has a thermostat, brand new I might add..

she ought to be warmer, any1 have any thoughts?

Try cutting a piece of cardboard to fit behind the grill to block the radiator. See if she warms up. You can always cut a smaller opening in the cardboard to regulate temp.

Seems like the t-stat would stay closed if water temp stayed that low, but maybe the volume of water in the radiator(combined w/ the low temp)causes the system to cycle too quickly for the t-stat to keep up.

It has been stated that the cooling system is overkill on this tractor. Lets say Henry designed it to run on a 110 degee day. Now you are operating it at a temp of 110 degrees colder. It wont take much zero degree air to cool it. That cold air is also cooling the exposed metal engine and thats really a lot of surface area at that temp.

thats interesting you say that, I wonder what people did back in the day...

thanks for the responce guys... I guess I will check that thermostat, but it makes me wonder if the timing has something to do with it. with my experiance in cars I have noticed some change in temp tho hardly scientific, with diffrent advance curves and timing...

It would have to be stuck open.Test it in a tuna can on the stove. Some water and a meat thermometer will do.Its 15 degrees here to day,Tractor wont heat up.
