3 Questions for 5' Brush Hog Set up on 8N:

1, Using the middle hole for the top link, about how long should the top link be?

2, The draft lever, under the right side of the seat which position should I set that at horizontal or vertical?

3, The rear wheel on the hog, how should that be set up? Am I looking for a certain angle for the rear tire or the overall deck?..I once heard something about setting the angle to reduce scalping, but don't remember it all.

...and thanks to Dell..." an ORC for a safer day".

Thanks

I set the height I'm going to cut by the rear wheel height. Then use the center link 'toggle' to set the deck level when the rear wheel is supporting the weight of the rear of the cutter. Draft lever up for position control. Then set the level control quadrant to acheive the same height in front as the rear. I then set the wing nut on the quadrant so that I go back to the same height every time I drop the cutter. On my setup I have to be carefull not to raise it too high, else the drive shaft hits the deck of the mower. It works for me.

I am totally new to this so please for give the lack of knowledge, thanks this is a grerat place to find help

Anthony..... ..you always use the hydraulic lift arms to set the "height" of the brushog. and you want the back of the hog to be higher than the front. OTHERWIZE the blade will cut the grass many, many, many times before you finish mowing. think about it..... Dell

Sal..... ..
2) the position control lever should be up for brushoggin, horizontal for plowin.
1) I set the top link length so the pins slide in when I mount the hog and then I leave it. 3) Set your hogs tailwheel a little taller, so that the front of the hog is only mowing the grass once.

I use height limiter chains to set the front of the hog, its eazier on the hydraulics and when I come to an obstical, I can raise the hog and the chains collaspe. Then I can drop the hog back to the height that the chains are set without worrying about where I set the hydraulic lift control. Limiter chains, buy them $30-40, or make 'em.

I am pleased to learn that you have ORC'd..... .Dell, the self-appointed ORC safety preacher

Dell:

Would like to try your concept of using "height limiter chains". Any help as to where to attach on 9N tractor would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks;

Bill C.

This is a drawing from Rossow that Ed has saved.
The next image in his album is a drawing of how to make them

NOTE: the drawing shows using the top hole in the top link rocker - you should ALWAYS use the lowest hole. ONLY exception I can think of is, when in draft mode and using a cultivator you may wany to use the top hole for finer/quicker response to the drag of the cultivator. That will keep from digging in TOO deep and possibably ripping out the crop you are cultivating.

Just making sure I got this part right.

"Set your hogs tailwheel a little taller, so that the front of the hog is only mowing the grass once"

so the front of the hog by the 3 pt hitch is a bit lower (3"-4")than the tail/wheel right?

Thanks.
