9N hood removal

I have to remove the hood of my 9N to fix a radiator leak. Is it required/necessary to remove the steering wheel to remove the hood? It has been a long time since I had to remove the hood.

Reason to work on the radiator is that in Kansas there is a bee or some insect that likes to lay eggs in the radiator overflow tube. When the radiator gets hot and tries to spit out some, the high pressure has to go someplace and it has split the upper hose or a seam on the radiator. The leak is higher than the core tubes, luckily.

Check your overflow tube with a piece of wire, if your tractor sits outside.

Thanks for the info.

You need to remove the steering wheel on a 9N and 2N (especially if you have a cast dash that will break easy) but not on an 8N to be able to lift the hood off.

Not, it is not neccessary to remove the steering wheel. If your radiator is boiling over, chances are you overfilled it. Check out tips 12 & 24 for more info:

Tractor is not boiling over.

Water was way down to just covering the tubes. When I put some more in, it promptly started leaking from the upper rear radiator area when it warmed up and created some pressure. Yes it has a pressure radiator.

When I checked the tube it was full at the bottom end with wasp or other mud and eggs.
Thanks for your info!
